Tom Bailey is a poet, support worker and editor based in Edinburgh. His debut pamphlet, Please Do Not Touch or Feed the Horses, won the Poetry London Pamphlet Prize in 2024, an Eric Gregory Award in 2025 and a Somerset Maugham Award in 2026. You can get your copy here.
He also recently won the Keats-Shelley Essay Prize 2026 for his essay 'Listening to William Blake' and the 2026 Edwin Morgan Poetry Award for a selection of new poems.
Tom's poems have been published in various national and international journals, including The Poetry Review, bath magg, Berlin Lit, Epoch, Propel, Interpret, The North, and elsewhere. He won the Hamish Canham Prize 2023 for his poem ‘The dead twin and I are housemates now’, and has been longlisted twice in the National Poetry Competition.
In 2026, he completed a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at Royal Holloway, researching styles of lyric impersonality in the work of contemporary poets Emily Berry, Anne Carson and Denise Riley. He is also an associate member of the Royal Holloway Poetics Research Centre.

As a teacher and facilitator, he has taught undergraduate English and Creative Writing classes at Strathclyde University, Royal Holloway University and Boston University. He has run poetry workshops with Arts Without Boundaries - a charity that supports the social inclusion of people with learning difficulties in the South East of England. He also runs workshops with The Writing School.
